Author, poet and educationist Devi Bala is emerging as a strong voice in contemporary Indian writing , very Indian in outlook, very feminine in impression, and deeply humane in outlook.
Currently serving as a college principal in Tamil Nadu, Devi Bala has authored five creative collections across fiction and poetry, each reflecting a different phase of her literary journey.
Devi Bala’s debut Star Dust is a collection of short bedtime stories for children, where she explores a world of fantasy and reality with equal enthusiasm. The book introduced her as a storyteller who could speak to children while leaving a lasting thought for adults. Her second book, Moon Bites, brought national attention. The collection was appreciated by Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Sonal Mansingh and veteran actress Lakshme Sivachandran, testifying to the quality and sensitivity of her verse.

Devi Bala’s third book, Sun Dancers, is an anthology of six love poems speaking about classic lovers. It is a loud voice dedicated to all those who have tasted love, and was featured in Delhi Wire’s Top 10 Books of the Month in June 2026. Her fourth book, Maze Walk, is a collection of short stories, very Indian in setting but global in emotions rooted in Tamil Nadu, yet resonant everywhere. It found its way to World Book Fair 2024 at New Delhi.
Devi’s fifth and latest, Project Unknown, is her third poetry collection a journey into the pain and pathos of human life. It marks her most introspective work to date.
“Writing allows me to express emotions that are often difficult to express in conversation,” says Devi Bala. Every book of hers has a strong undercurrent that makes us pause and ponder and her writing journey is sure to unravel nuances of human life in equally subtle yet strong terms in days to come as well.
